Porthole Installation Guide B:
With screw fastening visible on one side

This guide describes the installation of portholes with fastening visible on one side. This version is suitable for vision panels with frames made of aluminium or stainless steel L-profile.

Installation is basically straightforward, but should be prepared carefully: the key factors are a centred glass position, even gap dimensions and controlled tightening of the screws.

Installation in six clear steps

From the initial fixing of the mounting frame to the finished glazing: the following steps guide you safely through the installation.

Fix the mounting frame

Position the mounting frame with the fitted plastic sleeves on one side of the cut-out and temporarily fix it with adhesive tape.

Important: The frame must sit flush and must not move during the subsequent installation steps. A clean starting position makes all following steps easier.

Insert the glass pane centrally

Insert the glass pane centrally into the cut-out and loosely clamp it with three to four small wooden blocks. Secure the blocks with a little silicone to prevent them from slipping.

Recommended dimensions for the spacer blocks:

  • Width: 10 to 15 mm
  • Length: according to the leaf thickness
  • Height: approximately half the clearance between glass and cut-out
Installation goal: The pane should sit centrally, but must not be under tension. Blocks that are set too tightly can later cause stress.

Screw on the glazing frame

Position the second ring, the glazing frame, on the opposite side. The supplied raised countersunk screws are inserted into the plastic sleeves and screwed to the mounting frame.

Practical tip: A screw-holding screwdriver can make installation much easier, because the screws must be guided cleanly.

Set the gap dimension for the glazing gasket

Half the distance between the glazing frame and the glass pane is set as the gap clearance for the glazing gasket. Suitable glazing spacer blocks are inserted between the glass pane and the mounting frame for this purpose.

Suitable spacer blocks:

  • Red: 2 mm
  • Green: 3 mm
  • Yellow: 4 mm
  • Blue: 5 mm
Professional point: The gap dimension should be as even as possible all around. This ensures a clean appearance and makes it easier to insert the gasket evenly.

Insert the glazing wedge gasket on the glazing frame

Insert the supplied glazing wedge gasket between the glass pane and the glazing frame. Work evenly and make sure that the gasket sits cleanly in the intended joint.

Clean execution: The gasket should not be twisted, squeezed or overstretched in sections. An even position improves both fit and appearance.

Insert the wedge gasket on the mounting frame and remove spacer blocks

Now insert the glazing wedge gasket between the glass pane and the mounting frame. The previously inserted glazing spacer blocks are removed again during this process.

Final check: After removing the spacer blocks, the glass pane should sit securely, centrally and without visible stress in the frame.

Do not overtighten the screws

The screws may only be tightened until both metal rings sit cleanly against each other. The maximum torque is 1.5 Nm.

If the screws are tightened too much, welded internal threaded bushings may tear off or indentation marks may appear on the visible surfaces.

The result

When installed correctly, the result is a cleanly framed vision panel with a centrally positioned glass pane, even glazing and screw fastening visible on one side as a deliberate design element.
